The SHS boys tennis team defeated Taunton 5-0 for its second win of the season! Philip Jordache won at first singles, Paul Medeiros won at second singles, and Aadil Khond won at third singles. Thomas Chaw and Anthony Maylack won at first doubles and Irtaza Khalil and Riwaz Shrestha won at second doubles.

The SHS girls lacrosse team picked up its third win of the season defeating Southeastern 17-1! Morgan Groppi had 7 goals and 4 assists; Amanda Reid had 5 goals, 2 assists and 11 draw control wins; Lauren Mitchell had 1 goal and 1 assist; Hazel McBurney, Olivia Joumaa, Jillian Falcione, and Nicole Reid each had 1 goal; Casey Groppi had 2 assists; Katrina Varnum had 5 saves in net.

The Stoughton High boys track team defeated Canton 93-43 on April 23 to improve to 3-0 on the season! There were multiple individual winners for the SHS: Valdimar DePina won both the 400m hurdles and the 2 mile; Carlens Elas won the 200m and the 400m and placed third in the long jump; Alex Huynh won the 110m hurdles, the long jump, and was second in the shot put; Ethan Jimenez won the shot put and finished first in the discus; Jack Barbato won both the mile and the 800m race; Brandon Madden won the 100m and placed second in the 200m dash. The SHS girls track team narrowly lost to Canton 69-67. The record for the team is now 1-2. Senai Whigham won both the 100 and the 200 meter races and placed second in the long jump; Leah McCarty won the shot put and the discus; Belleya Franck won the high jump and the hurdle race; Lindsey Mitchell won the 800m; Maya Ashu finished first in the javelin; Janesha Andre placed second in the javelin and third in the 100m dash.

The Stoughton High baseball team went 3-0 over the April vacation week. The second and third victories came at the end of the week. The SHS baseball team defeated Brockton 15-6 on April 19. Patrick McLaughlin picked up his first win on the mound. Dom Belle had 3 hits and 3 runs batted in, Liam Dunn had 2 hits and 5 RBI, Drew Geaney had 2 hits and 1 RBI, and Gavin Alexson, Cole Franey, and Hunter Malkin also drove in a run. On April 20, the Black Knights beat Oliver Ames 3-1 for the team’s second win in as many days. James Spector had a complete game on the mound, striking out 6 batters. Geaney and Franey each drove in a run for SHS.

Congratulations to Stoughton High boys basketball players Liam Pearl and Anthony Alessi for being included in the HockomockSports.com boys basketball season awards! Pearl, a senior and a captain of the team, was named to the Hockomock Sports all-defensive team. Alessi, a sophomore, was named to the Hockomock Sports all-underclassmen team. Big milestone for the Stoughton High girls lacrosse program! Congratulations to the SHS varsity girls lacrosse team for recording its first ever win at the varsity level! Stoughton beat Taunton 19-8 April 11 on the turf field at SHS. Morgan Groppi had 7 goals and 2 assists. Amanda Reid had 6 goals and 8 draw control wins. Casey Groppi had 2 goals, Neala Garrels had 2 goals, Lauren Mitchell had 1 goal and 1 assist, Hazel McBurney had 1 goal and 1 assist, and goalie Katrina Varnum had 14 saves in net. The varsity team is pictured here celebrating the victory.

The Stoughton High boys tennis team beat Canton 3-2 on April 10 in dramatic fashion. Senior captain Aadil Khond won a third set tiebreaker to decide the match. Both SHS doubles teams, Anthony Maylack/Thomas Chaw and Riwaz Shrestha/Irtaza Khalil, also won. It was the first team victory for SHS boys tennis since the 2022 season. James Spector pitched a complete game for the Black Knights, allowing only 2 earned runs, striking out 4, and also driving in what turned out to be the game winning run on a squeeze bunt.

Congratulations to the Stoughton High trio of Alex Huynh (first overall) Joshua Udeh (4th) and Bunmi Fabikun (5th) for winning the boys high jump relay event at the MSTCA Division 3 State Relays!

The O'Donnell Middle School winter sports teams will be taking over the Stoughton High gym on Wednesday, January 31! There is a wrestling meet at 4pm, girls basketball game (featuring a halftime performance by the OMS dance team) at 5:30pm, and boys basketball game at 6:30pm. Come and support our OMS students and the future of Stoughton athletics!

Our MIAA Student Ambassadors, SHS seniors Jarred Daughtry, Morgan Groppi, and Bunmi Fabikun, pictured left to right, attended the 29th Annual MIAA Sportsmanship Summit, held November 9, 2023 at Gillette Stadium.

Congratulations to Stoughton High senior Morgan Groppi for signing her letter of intent to play lacrosse at Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire! Morgan served as a captain of the SHS girls lacrosse team last spring, earning team MVP and Hockomock League honorable mention recognition. She is also an accomplished field hockey player at SHS, serving as a captain of the team this fall season.

The Patriot Ledger recognized Stoughton High junior Devon Rossi Benson, a lineman on the SHS football team, as one of 40 "unsung heroes" on high school football teams across the South Shore this season. Devon, wearing his 76 jersey, is pictured here. From the Patriot Ledger: [Devon] has made an impact for the Black Knights on both sides of the ball. Coach Christopher Evans said he consistently faces double-teams, and even an occasional triple-team, in the trenches. "He goes hard, never makes an excuse and shows up ready to work," Evans said. "We've had to make some adjustments up front on the offensive line and he does whatever is asked of him."
