District Conference

 

On January 28th, 2016 students from Stoughton High DECA competed at the District conference held at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, MA in their competitive events. Students received the opportunity to win medals and trophies and advance to the State Career Development Conference in Boston. Out of the 63 students who went, 50% qualified to move onto the State Career Development Conference held in Boston in March. 28 of our students placed in the Top 5 of their business category.  Over 580 students competed from area high schools such as Taunton, King Phillip, Brockton. Somerset-Berkley, Oliver Ames, Bridgewater, and Raynham High Schools.

 

State Career Development Conference

 

Of the 34 students who qualified for states, 29 students attended the State Career Development Conference in March 2016 in Boston, MA. 21 of the 29 SHS students met competency in one or more of their exams or role plays. Over 1800 students competed from Massachusetts high schools.

A first place medal was achieved by Sarah Widrow, a sophomore who competed in Principles of Marketing, allowing her to qualify to move onto Nationals.

A state medal was acieved by Craig Goodrich, a junior who placed fourth in his category in Quick Serve Restaurant Management.

The Massachusetts State Career Development Conference is the pinnacle of the DECA year for most DECA members. It was filled with competition and leadership activities, there was entertainment all packed into a three day conference, a key note speaker, Randy Pierce, chapter presentations, State Officer campaigns, a DECA Dance, Spirit Night, and final award ceremonies. Each student competed in their business category which included 1-2 role-plays and 1-2 written exams, a quiz bowl competition and a  submission of a revised written report with a 15-minute presentation given on it.


International Career Development Conference

1 Competition Member attended ICDC from Stoughton High DECA in 2016. Craig Goodrich, junior, achieved DECA competency in Quick Serve Restaurant Series and is receiving a certificate for meeting competency and becoming an International Finalist (top 20 overall and first in his flight for his role play).

Aarti Patel, junior, lead our Stoughton High DECA members in the following two Chapter Campaigns and completed all documentation for our chapter. We were awarded 8 leadership academy spots at Nationals to give to deserving and dedicated members. Stoughton High DECA received the following awards at Nationals for completing the following DECA Chapter Campaigns for Stoughton High DECA:

  • Membership Campaign: increased DECA membership by 30 new members in 2015-2016
  • Community Service Campaign: completed a shoe drive and donated over 75 pairs of shoes

The following 7 students from DECA were selected to attend the National Leadership Academics this year: Kaitlyn Eckler, Janessa Quintana, Olivia Hoffman, Jacob Trieber, Isabella Hobbs, Mia Greene, and Tim Raeke
